About the role:
The Assistant Collection Manager: Storage and Moves (BM_ARC) role is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the team responsible for the unloading and rehouse of objects from across the collection into the new British Museum Archaeological Research Collection storage facility as part of a major storage move project working with a range of material including archaeological assemblages, large objects including casts and sculptures, and textile collections.
This role is primarily technical. Problem solving is a key aspect of the role, and a flexible approach to working is essential.
Key areas of responsibility:
- To facilitate the unloading, unpacking and rehousing of objects across the collections
- To observe best practice in all aspects of object handling and collections storage
- To monitor security of objects and to maintain them in good condition in storage and in transit
- To maintain and update essential object documentation, including location information and photography
- To follow Integrated Pest Management procedures
About you:
- Good general education including GCSEs or equivalent is essential with Museum Studies or qualifications that include practical experience of object handling being desirable
- Practical experience of hand tools and workshop equipment and familiarity with databases is desirable
- Demonstrable interest in aspects of the Museum’s collections
- Ability to work well as part of team
