The British Museum is a museum of our common humanity. Free to visit and accessible to all, the Museum looks after an extraordinary collection of objects and engages millions of visitors every year. Philanthropy plays a vital role in advancing the Museum’s mission, reach, and impact through a range of sector-leading curatorial, public engagement and capital programmes.
There is an opportunity for an ambitious major gifts fundraiser to join the Advancement department at an exciting time in our journey, as we plan a major campaign to support the British Museum’s transformation for the 21st century.
Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, the post holder will manage their own portfolio of major supporters, including private trusts and foundations, individuals and statutory funders, both in the UK and internationally.
The successful candidate will have experience of securing medium-to-large donations and grants, strong organisational skills and excellent communication abilities, alongside a passion for the role of museums, culture and heritage in society.
The British Museum offers an engaging and supportive working environment, with a range of benefits including an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, a flexible approach to hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
