Lancaster Arts is excited to be recruiting for an Assistant Curator to play a key role in our programme delivery. This role will support the curation and development of our visual arts programme in the Peter Scott Gallery, working across the Lancaster University campus and wider afield, wherever exhibitions may be situated. You will support the Curator to maintain a high standard of upkeep of the university’s art collection and enable the day-to-day running of the Peter Scott Gallery, working closely with artists, volunteers and colleagues at the university and partners in Lancaster and beyond.
This is a role requiring an enthusiasm for making things happen, artistic ambition and a commitment to the highest standards of exhibition practice. Our ideal candidate will be diligent with strong interpersonal and practical ‘can do’ skills. You will also be someone who can grow and develop with us as we explore new opportunities together.
Lancaster Arts is a distinctive contemporary arts organisation in the Northwest of England with a renowned reputation for cutting edge arts practice in all art forms. We are a part of the National Portfolio of Arts Council England. Our home is at the heart of the beautiful Lancaster University campus and our venues include the Great Hall, Nuffield Theatre and Peter Scott Gallery and we regularly host work off campus in the Lancaster District. We are proud of our artist development programme, which supports and features artists at all stages of their careers. In addition, we host a wide spectrum of events and participatory opportunities across contemporary theatre, dance, music, visual art, live art, contemporary circus, and comedy, and we work closely with partners locally, regionally and internationally to achieve this. Please visit our website https://www.lancasterarts.org/ to learn about what we do!
We are a friendly team but we need to better reflect the rich diversity of the northwest. We strongly welcome applications from disabled, D/deaf and/or neurodivergent people and those of Black and Asian heritages, and all ethnically diverse backgrounds. We will guarantee an interview to disabled candidates who meet all essential criteria. We hope that the successful applicant will be able to start working with us in the summer months.
This is a part time (30 hours per week), indefinite post.
