The Brücke Museum collects and researches the works of the artist group Brücke (Künstlergruppe Brücke). It has one of the largest collections on Brücke art and is the only museum in the world with this focus. As a museum initiated by artists, it seeks dialogue with contemporary artists. A multi-perspective view of the collection, including previously neglected narrations, is the focus of the content. The Brücke Museum develops current and critical perspectives on the collection through a socially relevant exhibition and mediation program as well as through cooperation with other museums, research institutions, educational and social institutions.
The Brücke Museum would like to expand the scientific area and, subject to the final approval of the necessary funds by the State of Berlin, has to fill a position that is initially limited to 4 years on June 1, 2023. The curator (s) is subordinate to the director of the Brücke Museum.
Your tasks
● Scientific support for the museum’s holdings, especially in the area of provenance research
● Conception and implementation of scientifically sound and currently relevant permanent and temporary exhibitions with a perspective on the effectiveness of the public
● Conception and realization of publications, including the Brücke archive series
● Responsibility and supervision of the conservation and restoration of the collection and the associated documentation
● Responsibility for loan traffic
● Active digitization of the collection
● Scientific support and processing of the museum archive
● Participation in interdisciplinary projects in the house, both in exhibitions and in mediation
● Conception and implementation of events, lectures and guided tours
● Creation of collection and exhibition documentation
Your profile
● Completed university degree ( M.A. or comparable ) in a specialist spectrum relevant to the museum and the task as well as proven experience in cultural management
● Profound knowledge of the history of the 20th and 21st. Century with a focus on the art of Expressionism and the Brücke
● Knowledge and interest in the field of provenance research
● an innovative curatorial approach and future-oriented strategies in dealing with the museum holdings
● Proven experience in conceptual development and implementation as well as support for exhibitions and publications
● Proven experience in obtaining third-party funds
● Knowledge of current museological and current discourses
● Communication, moderation and teamwork
● Interest in and skills in mediation for various target groups
● Basic knowledge of the office and inventory tools
● Excellent knowledge of German and at least English
● High resilience, operational readiness and flexibility
● Tackling type, hands-on mentality
● Curiosity and openness for innovative, interdisciplinary and experimental collection and placement formats

The position is initially limited to 4 years. The hiring takes place for this time at the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation. A limitation and rededication to the Brücke Museum is planned. The weekly working hours and remuneration are based on the TV-L, E 13.
