Your Role
We seek an individual with the following qualifications:
Qualifications
- Board-level experience, with Chair experience being a plus but not a requirement
- A proven record of fostering inclusivity and diversity within the arts
- The ability to contribute strategically to a globally recognized arts institution and support fundraising efforts
- A solid understanding of the commercial aspects within an arts organization, including our enterprises – Print Sales, Bookshop, and Café
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for representing The Photographers’ Gallery to funders, partners, and policymakers
- A deep passion for the arts and photography, recognizing the medium’s transformative potential
Main Responsibilities
As Chair of Trustees, your responsibilities will include:
Responsibilities
- Building a strong partnership with the Director and Executive Management Team
- Ensuring a diverse Board with the appropriate skills and knowledge to align with the gallery’s future strategy
- Collaborating with the Executive Management Team to facilitate productive trustee meetings
- Leading the Board to support the Executive Management Team’s plans, in line with the Articles of Association
- Engaging in fundraising activities, including Arts Council England applications and reporting
- Attending crucial events and advocating for The Photographers’ Gallery among key stakeholders
Terms of Appointment
The Chair’s initial term is three years, with the option for re-election for an additional three-year term.
Time Commitment
The role demands a commitment of two to four calendar days each month, including quarterly Board meetings and an annual General Meeting. Attendance at exhibition openings and other essential Gallery events is expected.
Remuneration
The Chair position is voluntary, with reasonable expenses reimbursed in accordance with Gallery guidelines.
Location
Board meetings are held in person at The Photographers’ Gallery in central London, with the option to dial in if in-person attendance is not possible.
