Overview of the Role
The Bodleian Libraries seek a talented Bern and Ronny Schwartz Curator of Photography, generously supported by The Bern Schwartz Family Foundation. This role involves enhancing the library’s photographic collections through reference services, collection development, appraisal, cataloguing, and public engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities
Candidates will work with prestigious collections documenting the history of photography from its inception to the present. This permanent, full-time role requires 37.5 hours weekly with flexible start and finish times, although attendance at Weston Library during core hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm) is necessary. Remote work may be available once a week depending on current projects. Evening and weekend shifts in the reading room are also part of the role, involving one evening every three weeks and two Saturdays annually.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will have a deep passion for and knowledge of photography, excellent communication skills for engaging diverse audiences, and expertise in managing collections according to archival standards.
