Concept
BJCEM (www.bjcem.org) is an international network that supports emerging talents, enhancing cultural and expressive production. It creates spaces for encounter, reflection, and formation, promoting dialogue among European and Mediterranean cultures. BJCEM is organizing the 20th Edition of the Biennale: Mediterranea 20 – Young Artists Biennale, part of GO! 2025 – European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia.
Two international curators (one from Slovenia and one from the Euro-Med area) are sought to:
- Develop the Biennale concept starting from Borderless
- Prepare the call for artist selection
- Select around 100 artists in collaboration with BJCEM members
- Coordinate exhibition setup
- Develop event and pre-Biennale residency programs
The curators will collaborate with BJCEM Executive Office, BJCEM members, and the GO! 2025 program team.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Procedure
This call is open to curators interested in cultural and contemporary artistic productions in the Mediterranean and/or insular, remote, and small territories.
Eligible candidates must come from, live, or work in one of the following countries:
Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Lebanon, Libya, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, North Macedonia, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Romania, Serbia, Syria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, UK, Ukraine.
Candidates must submit:
- Portfolio: Documenting research practice and projects (compressed PDF)
- Motivational Letter: Specific interest in the project (max. 2 pages)

Send all documents to mediterranea@bjcem.org by June 24th, 2024 – 9pm CEST. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Selection Modalities
Applications will be evaluated by BJCEM and GO! 2025. The decision is final.
Terms
- Participation is free of charge
- Selected candidates receive a gross fee of 5,000 euros
- 2/3 round trips to and from Nova Gorica/Gorizia covered (July 2024 to May/June 2025)
- Accommodation during missions in Nova Gorica/Gorizia provided
- Biennale opening: May 31st, 2025
- Selection results will be communicated on BJCEM’s website. Only the selected curators will be contacted by email.
