Overview
NEMO is offering travel grants for the European Museum Conference 2024, titled “Can We Talk? Museums Facing Polarisation.” The conference will be held from November 10-12, 2024, in Sibiu, Romania. Two distinct groups are eligible for these grants: young museum professionals across Europe and museum professionals from South and Central-Eastern Europe. Each group will receive five travel grants that include a €500 lump sum for travel and a free conference ticket.
Grant Categories
1. Young Museum Professionals
Five travel and conference grants are available for young museum professionals (up to 30 years old) from member states of the Council of Europe. These professionals should be engaged in cultural democracy, cultural politics, and community involvement, with a strong commitment to European collaboration and international networking.
Requirements:
- Submit a CV and a short video (max 1.5 minutes) outlining personal details, motivation for attending, and a proposal for a conference intervention.
- Active participation in the conference through an intervention, which could be artistic or a spontaneous contribution to the panels.
2. Museum Professionals from South and Central-Eastern Europe
Five travel and conference grants are also available for museum professionals from South and Central-Eastern Europe. Applicants should have an interest in cultural democracy, cultural/museum politics, and community involvement.
Requirements:
- Submit a CV and a short video (max 1.5 minutes) detailing personal information, motivation, and a proposal for an article on conference topics.
- Write an article on one or more panel topics from a regional perspective. The article must be in English and no longer than one page.
Conference Panel Topics
- We Need to Talk: Focuses on the impact of cultural organizations on polarisation.
- Can We Talk: Examines how museums can build relationships with underrepresented groups to counteract polarisation.
- Should We Talk: Explores whether museums should remain neutral or take a stand in polarising times.
- Are We Allowed to Talk: Discusses political influence and censorship in museums, and strategies to counteract them.
