The Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) is seeking an Assistant Curator, Sculpture (Maternity Cover, fixed term for 12 months). The role involves supporting the care, research, display, and interpretation of the Sculpture Collection, which forms part of the Decorative Art and Sculpture Department.
The V&A’s Sculpture Collection is one of the most extensive collections of post-classical European sculpture in the world, including significant medieval ivories, English alabasters, and Italian Renaissance and Baroque works. The collection also features substantial holdings of bronzes, medals, terracotta sculptures, and the famous plaster casts in the Cast Courts. The successful candidate will work within this prestigious department and contribute to the care and display of these works.
The Assistant Curator will be involved in a variety of curatorial tasks, offering the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills. Primary responsibilities include working on object-related activities, managing collection documentation, and supporting the display of works, particularly in the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries, which are award-winning exhibitions at the V&A.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the care, research, and display of the V&A’s extensive Sculpture Collection.
- Maintain collection documentation and develop interpretation for public presentations.
- Collaborate across departments and with external institutions to ensure successful operations in the Sculpture galleries.
- Assist with the development and presentation of exhibitions and displays.
Requirements:
- Interest in sculpture and a strong commitment to developing curatorial expertise.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across collections and departments.
