Role Overview
The V&A Museum is seeking an Exhibition Project Curator to support the development and delivery of a large-scale exhibition on Byzantine art, scheduled for Autumn 2026. The successful candidate will work under the Exhibition Lead Curator, focusing on research, content development, and coordination of all aspects of the exhibition, including an accompanying publication and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Research: Conduct in-depth research on Byzantine art and related subjects, contributing to the exhibition’s themes and content.
- Exhibition Development: Assist in developing the exhibition’s structure, selecting objects, and writing labels and texts with the Lead Curator.
- Collections and Loans: Identify objects from public and private collections, manage loans, and coordinate with lenders and the Exhibition Manager.
- Documentation and CMS Management: Maintain project records, update entries on the V&A Collection Management System, and track object movement.
- Publication Support: Contribute to research, writing, and editing for the exhibition’s publication, coordinating with authors and the V&A Publishing team.
- Collaborative Work: Partner with exhibition designers, coordinate permissions for images and multimedia, and collaborate with various museum departments.
- Project Reporting: Present updates to the Exhibition Steering Group and support partnerships with external organizations.
Candidate Requirements
- Expertise: Background in Byzantine art or willingness to develop substantial knowledge in this area.
- Experience: Proven experience in curating exhibitions or displays, including writing, editing, and managing copyright for audiovisual materials.
- Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, excellent written English, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage complex tasks with tight deadlines.
- Desirable: Knowledge of Greek is an advantage.
