About the Role
The Curatorial Intern will develop and deliver a public program for Artspace Aotearoa’s lower ground floor space (“The Kit”) while supporting the operational delivery of the organization’s core gallery program. This internship is tailored for early-career professionals seeking practical arts experience and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Management:
- Conceptualize and deliver a public program (4–8 outcomes) within budget.
- Create support materials and operational guidelines tailored to audiences.
- Liaise with artists, writers, and educators to organize schedules and events.
- Manage budgets, marketing, production, and gallery upkeep.
Operational Support:
- Oversee the gallery space, ensuring it is staffed during opening hours.
- Welcome visitors and stakeholders, ensuring a hospitable environment.
- Assist with artwork care, maintenance, and gallery operations.
- Contribute to organizational processes, adhering to policies and ensuring alignment with Artspace Aotearoa’s vision.
Professional Development:
- Work with an external mentor and Artspace Aotearoa staff to achieve learning goals.
- Present program proposals, reports, and self-evaluations.
- Build professional relationships and gain insight into the contemporary art sector.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Skills:
- Broad knowledge of contemporary art.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with Google Docs, Excel, and basic administrative tasks.
- Experience working with artists and an understanding of exhibition and event production.
- Basic knowledge of art handling, installation, and archiving.
