The Art History Institute of Freie Universität Berlin uniquely combines research and teaching in the history of art across Africa, Europe, North America, and East Asia. Within the focus area “Art History of Europe and the Americas,” the professorship for “Art History and Art Theory of the Early Modern Period” is particularly concerned with the visual and material culture of Italy and the German-speaking regions from the 14th to the 18th century. Special interest is given to the interconnection of art history, natural history, and cultural history.
Job description:
Collaboration in teaching and research (research projects, international events) in the field of “Art History of the Early Modern Period with a focus on Italian Art and Art Theory,” as well as in the organization of BA and MA degree programs.
The position serves the purpose of further academic qualification.
Requirements:
Completed academic university degree (Master’s) and a doctorate (PhD) in Art History.
Desirable:

Excellent knowledge in the field of early modern art history, preferably of Italy

Familiarity with current methodological questions and cultural studies discourses

Communication and teamwork skills

Very good language skills in English and Italian or another foreign language relevant to one’s own research
