Assistant Exhibitions Manager

This role is part of the Exhibitions Department at the Royal Academy of Arts, supporting the organisation and delivery of temporary loan exhibitions. The Assistant Exhibitions Manager will work closely with the Exhibitions Managers and Senior Exhibitions Manager on all aspects of exhibition management, including loans, insurance, transport, installation, communication, and general administration. Opportunities exist to lead smaller projects, deputise for senior managers, and contribute to the RA’s vibrant exhibition programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage loan administration, insurance, and Immunity from Seizure reports.
- Coordinate transport, installation, and takedown of artworks.
- Liaise with curators, designers, transport agents, and other external collaborators.
- Support exhibition planning, 3D design, lighting, and AV/IT implementation.
- Assist with financial tracking, orders, invoices, and budget management.
- Take minutes, maintain records, and support strategic and departmental initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria / Person Specification
- Proven experience in exhibition roles in arts organisations, galleries, or museums.
- Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple exhibitions simultaneously.
- Administrative excellence, including minute-taking, record maintenance, and report creation.
- Experience handling financial information and budgets.
- Attention to detail, diplomacy, and discretion when liaising with lenders and external partners.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.
- Flexibility, teamwork, and genuine interest in visual arts and RA’s work.
