Wysing Arts Centre is seeking an Assistant Curator to support the development and delivery of its artistic programme. The role combines curatorial input, artist support, programme management, and organisational collaboration, contributing to high-quality, accessible experiences for artists and audiences.
This position is ideal for an imaginative, well-organised curator with a strong commitment to contemporary and artist-led practice, who is excited by the potential of working within Wysing’s rural context and values-led environment.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery & Management

Support delivery of Wysing’s artistic programme across the organisation and with partners

Ensure effective planning, communication, and budget management

Take delegated responsibility for specific programme strands or projects

Contribute to evaluation and monitoring for internal learning and funders

Support audience development through accessible and innovative programme activity
Artist Liaison & Support

Act as a key point of contact for artists on site

Support Wysing’s studio artists, including mentoring and delivery of the annual Open Studios programme

Gather and respond to artist feedback to improve internal processes

Represent Wysing in meetings with artists and partners
Curatorial Research & Development

Contribute ideas responding to current trends in art and culture

Undertake curatorial research, including studio visits and field research

Support funding applications with curatorial context and artist information
Communications & Digital

Provide content for Wysing’s website and social media platforms

Support digital strategies, including online archives, live streaming, and platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo
-
Liaise closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager on project updates
Access, Inclusion & Engagement

Embed accessibility across programme planning and delivery

Contribute to Wysing’s Integrated Programme, including work with young people and artists

Ensure access needs are considered for artists, audiences, and staff
Administration & Operations

Process invoices and maintain accurate budget tracking

Contribute to internal planning, risk assessments, and event logistics

Support evening and weekend events (TOIL system in place)

Work in line with organisational policies, including EDI, Health & Safety, and environmental responsibility

Strong interest in contemporary and artist-led practice

Experience supporting exhibitions, events, or residencies
