CURATORIAL TRAINEE (m/f/d) in the Curatorial Department

Contract: Full-time, 2-year volunteer/traineeship (39.83h/week)
Salary: TV-L 50% E13, level 1 (1st year); E13, level 2 (2nd year)
The Kunstsammlung NRW offers a comprehensive traineeship in its Curatorial Department, providing hands-on experience in exhibition conception, organization, and publication preparation. Trainees are encouraged to independently address curatorial and organizational tasks, organize projects through the Encounters program, and participate actively in museum discourse.
Key Responsibilities

Participate in the conception and organization of exhibitions and related publications

Independently manage content-related and organizational tasks

Organize and run projects within the Encounters performance program

Collaborate with colleagues across departments

Engage with current museum and research discourse
Qualifications

University degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or comparable field (Master’s or Magister); PhD or equivalent experience desirable

Knowledge of 20th-century and contemporary art

Ability to work independently, thoroughly, and goal-oriented

Strong time management and organizational skills

Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities

Interest in addressing contemporary challenges (globalization, climate change, digitalization, migration, social inequality)

Very good written and spoken German and English; other languages desirable

Confident with MS Office; knowledge of Museum Plus, Tape, or Teams advantageous

Practical experience in museum or exhibition operations, preferably international
