National Gallery Global (NGG) is seeking a Senior Picture Researcher to oversee picture research, image sourcing, and rights clearance for a range of publications and merchandise produced by the National Gallery and National Gallery Global.
Reporting to the Publisher, the role is responsible for sourcing high-quality images, negotiating reproduction rights, managing copyright clearances, and ensuring accurate crediting across publications and products. The Senior Picture Researcher will also supervise the Picture Researcher and freelancers, manage budgets and supplier relationships, and maintain the picture-research database.
The position involves close collaboration with editorial teams, the photographic department, NGG merchandise teams, and departments across the National Gallery, including exhibitions, learning, digital, communications, and curatorial. The successful candidate will also liaise with external image libraries, copyright holders, estates, and organisations such as DACS and Bridgeman Images.
The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and experience handling image rights and picture research within publishing, museums, or cultural organisations.
