The Assistant Curator, Site Design is part of a small curatorial team working across site-based visual arts projects at Southbank Centre, in close collaboration with the Hayward Gallery and wider institutional teams.
The role focuses on the development, coordination and delivery of exhibitions, installations and site-specific projects across one of Europe’s largest cultural centres, working closely with artists, architects, designers, fabricators and internal departments.
About the Role
The Assistant Curator supports the Site Design team in planning, developing and delivering exhibitions, commissions and site-wide artistic interventions across the Southbank Centre estate.
The role includes both curatorial support and hands-on production, with responsibility for coordination, administration, budgeting, logistics and installation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, development and delivery of exhibitions and site projects
- Manage smaller-scale curatorial projects independently
- Coordinate commissions and production of artworks for site-specific projects
- Liaise with artists, curators, architects, designers and contractors
- Support development of installation layouts and exhibition planning
- Work with technical teams on installation and deinstallation processes
- Organise production of exhibition graphics and visual materials
- Manage budgets, purchase orders, invoices and financial tracking
- Coordinate exhibition information for website publication with digital teams
- Support press materials, photography and documentation
- Assist in organising exhibition-related events, talks and public programmes
- Give gallery talks and exhibition tours when required
- Support exhibition maintenance during public opening
- Conduct research and propose artists or projects for programme development
- Maintain project documentation, archives and records systems
- Organise meetings, agendas, travel and administrative coordination
Candidate Profile
- Experience in exhibition production, curatorial support or site-based art projects
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in fast-paced environments
- Good understanding of contemporary art and public realm projects
- Experience working with artists and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong administrative and financial management skills
- Competency in MS Office, Google Drive and Adobe Photoshop
- Understanding of installation processes and technical workflows
