The UCL Institute of Archaeology is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching) in Museum Studies to contribute to teaching and curriculum development within the MA Museum Studies and related undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The Institute is one of the world’s leading centres for archaeology, museum studies, heritage studies, and public archaeology. The post is based within the Heritage Studies section, an interdisciplinary environment that brings together academics and practitioners working across museums, conservation, cultural heritage, and material culture studies.
The role focuses on the delivery and development of teaching in museum studies, including core modules, optional modules, dissertation supervision, and broader programme development. The successful candidate will contribute to shaping teaching and learning strategies across museum and heritage education at UCL.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver teaching on core modules within the MA Museum Studies programme.
- Develop and design new optional modules in museum and heritage studies.
- Supervise postgraduate dissertations and student research projects.
- Contribute to teaching, assessment, marking, and academic support.
- Support the development of teaching and learning strategies across museum studies programmes.
- Collaborate with academic staff within the Heritage Studies section.
- Contribute to the wider intellectual and teaching environment of the Institute of Archaeology.
Requirements
- PhD in Museum Studies, Heritage Studies, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated interest in museums and heritage practice.
- Experience designing, coordinating, and delivering teaching at postgraduate level.
- Experience of professional practice within museums or related cultural institutions.
- Strong academic and pedagogical skills in museum and heritage studies.
- Ability to contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and research environments.
- Strong communication, organisational, and supervisory skills.
