Contract: Full-time
Working arrangement: Hybrid, with most work taking place on site
Hours: 35 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekends
Salary: CAD $52,000 annually

About the role
Art Metropole seeks an experienced and collaborative Operations Manager to join its team during a period of institutional growth.
Working closely with the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will oversee daily operations, financial administration, and internal systems while supporting revenue-generating and fundraising initiatives.
The successful candidate will help develop the organisational infrastructure underpinning Art Metropole’s work as an artist-run centre, bookstore, publisher, and distributor.
Organisational management
The Operations Manager will:
- Oversee daily operations and ensure efficient administrative systems and workflows
- Develop procedures supporting staff, artistic programming, and long-term financial sustainability
- Supervise operational staff and external contractors as required
- Support the Board of Directors through meeting preparation, reporting, policy development, and governance administration
Bookstore and distribution
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the operation of Art Metropole’s bookstore and distribution activities
- Managing inventory systems and sales processes
- Maintaining vendor and consignment relationships
- Coordinating wholesale fulfilment, purchasing, shipping, and receiving
- Improving operational efficiency and increasing in-person and online sales
- Developing the organisation’s CRM, ecommerce, website, inventory, and other digital systems
- Assisting with retail duties at the main shop, pop-up locations, and art fairs
Financial management
The successful candidate will:
- Oversee financial administration, budgeting, cash-flow monitoring, and reporting
- Work with the Executive Director and external bookkeeper
- Support the annual audit and CADAC reporting
- Monitor performance against annual budgets
- Provide financial analysis supporting organisational planning
- Contribute to sponsorship, donor stewardship, fundraising, and grant administration
Candidate profile
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Experience managing operations within an arts organisation, artist-run centre, publisher, retailer, or similar environment
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial-planning skills
- Experience developing systems and improving organisational processes
- The ability to identify and implement revenue-generating initiatives
- Excellent organisational, project-management, and prioritisation skills
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team
- Experience supervising staff, managing contractors, and coordinating stakeholders
- An interest in contemporary art, artist-led publishing, and Art Metropole’s mandate
Experience with CRM systems, ecommerce platforms, inventory software, grant administration, fundraising, nonprofit governance, contemporary art, or small-press publishing is an advantage.
Working arrangement
The position combines remote and in-person work, although most hours will be spent at Art Metropole’s shop and office in Toronto. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required for events and openings.
