San Antonio Museum of Art and Trinity University Collaborative Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellowship
The San Antonio Museum of Art and Trinity University invite applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the history of art and material culture, awarded for the two-year period beginning August 2019. While in residence in San Antonio, the Fellow will hold department affiliation and joint appointment with Trinity University and the San Antonio Museum of Art, teach one course per semester, and have the opportunity for scholarly research in the collections of the San Antonio Museum of Art. We are especially interested in applicants in the disciplines of Oceanic and Aboriginal art, photography, and works on paper. Other areas of interest include Islamic art, Southeast Asian art, and American art. Preference will be given to scholars from underrepresented groups in the humanities in museums and academia.
Applicant’s scholarship should focus on one of the areas listed above, with particular emphasis on some aspect of material culture, and should demonstrate a keen interest in object-based research, teaching, and experiential learning.
The Fellow will be asked to teach one course per semester, including: (1) a lower-division or First Year Experience course (Fall), (2) an experiential course based at the Museum that uses the collection to frame a research project with which undergraduate students will be involved as collaborators (Spring). We are particularly interested in ideas for courses that would attract minority and first generation students (25% of Trinity’s students are first-generation or Pell Grant eligible).
About Trinity and the San Antonio Museum of Art:
The San Antonio Museum of Art is an encyclopedic museum with collections spanning the globe and more than 5000 years of history. The San Antonio Museum of Art is located just north of downtown San Antonio on a beautiful campus located on the Museum Reach of the San Antonio River. The museum receives approximately 160,000 visitors per year. The extensive collections are supplemented by a robust and ambitious program of special exhibition and community out-reach. San Antonio is currently the 7th largest city in the U.S. with a rich cultural history stretching back 300 years. Vibrant economic growth and rapidly growing population make San Antonio one of the nation’s top “brain gain” cities.
Trinity University is an independent, primarily residential, university founded in 1869. Our selective admissions generate a challenging and eager student body of approximately 2,500 undergraduates, including students from all over the United States and a relatively high percentage of students from foreign countries. Trinity primarily offers a liberal arts and sciences education, with a few selected professional programs. The University prepares students for a variety of professional opportunities as well as post-graduate education. The close interdisciplinary connections formed at the university present many opportunities for students and faculty. There is an excellent library with over a million volumes and an excellent inter- library loan service.
Trinity University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellowship for the 2019-2021 academic years should have their degree at the time of application and must have received the Ph.D. degree after 2014.
