Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship
The San Antonio Museum of Art invites applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. While in residence in San Antonio, the fellow will have the opportunity to frame a research project and a related publication in one of the San Antonio Museum of Art’s collecting areas. The fellow is expected to participate actively in the Museum’s Curatorial department, and will work closely with a mentor from the Curatorial team and with staff in other departments.
The fellowship is open to candidates who work in any field of SAMA’s collection, with a preference for specialists in the areas of Oceanic Art, Islamic Art, African Art, ancient Near Eastern Art, Chicanx/Latinx Art, and Photography. Applicants’ scholarship should focus on some aspect of material culture, and candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in object-based research, curatorial work, and exhibition development.
The fellowship will be awarded for a two-year period beginning October 2022. The fellowship offers a stipend of $50,000/year, and substantial additional funding is available for travel, research and publication. Fellows will be eligible for the benefits package offered to all Museum employees as well as funding for relocation expenses.
As a part of an increasingly diverse community and in keeping with the goals of the Association of Art Museum Directors and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the San Antonio Museum of Art is committed to diversifying its professional staff. The Museum encourages individuals from groups that are historically underrepresented in the curatorial profession to apply.
