Overview
“Curatorial Tipping Points” is a two-day symposium in summer 2024, hosted at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg and the Salzburger Kunstverein. The event explores the evolving field of curatorial practices, where boundaries are often completely reimagined.
Concept
The term “Curatorial Tipping Points” draws a parallel with climate science, where a tipping point is a threshold that, once crossed, leads to significant and often irreversible changes. In curating, a tipping point refers to a crucial moment or event in the curatorial process that significantly influences the perception or understanding of an art project or the art world. These critical moments can lead to unexpected, innovative, or transformative outcomes.
Focus
Discussions at the symposium will challenge, dissect, and reconstruct the understanding of curating in the present context. Each panel will highlight the dynamic nature of curatorial practice, showcasing how it interacts with and influences various aspects of society and culture.
Support
The symposium is kindly supported by the Bundesministerium für Kunst, Kultur, öffentlichen Dienst und Sport (BMKÖS) and Phileas – The Austrian Office for Contemporary Art.
Organizer: AAC Austrian Association of Curators with contributions from the European Kunsthalle
In cooperation with: Salzburger Kunstverein and Museum der Moderne
